On Tuesday, May 14th, the Nevada girls soccer team played North Polk in a home contest, and ultimately the team walked away with a shootout win.

The team entered the game 10-3 hoping to extend their four-game win streak. They ended up doing just that.

Defensively, the team was great. They kept the Comets from scoring throughout the game. Composure was a key defensively as the team stayed calm and played well.

Until the shootout to close the game, both teams played great defense and kept the offense at bay.

Nevada was finally able to break through with the help of thorough practice of PK’s. Coach Randy Davis said, “ Everyone did their job in the shootout.”

Junior goalkeeper Erica Sporrer was key throughout the game. She was able to knock away two shots. She also tipped a third shot and deflected it off the goal post.

Moving forward to the end of their regular season, the team next took on Gilbert in an unfortunate 0-5 loss.

The team will play Grinnell in their first round of regionals at home on Wednesday, May 29. Hopefully the team will win and continue their season with the second round regional game on Friday at home.

The team would need one more win following the potential game Friday to advance to the state championships.
