Despite struggling through first portions of the season, the Nevada girls have been showing a lot of improvement in recent games. The girls managed to add on another home win this Tuesday against Greene County, putting them at 7-9-0 on the season with three wins out of their last five.

Nevada’s defense was a key factor in their victory, as Coach Jordan Bentley said. “We managed to create a lot of confusion for them with our defense. That led to turnovers.”

Nevada’s offense was then able to convert some of those turnovers to points.

Sophomore Addi Vorm said, “We pressed really well. That made it hard for them to get past half court. I thought it was fun to see that many turnovers.”

On the offensive side of the court, junior Kacie Rewerts led the charge with 16 of the 40 total points scored by Nevada.

Despite a close first quarter in which Nevada was held to a close 9-7, the Cubs rebounded in the second with an impressive 14-1 run before the half. In the third, the girls’ offense cooled down and was bested by Greene Country 6-7.

In the fourth and final quarter, the Cub girls were able to close the game off and top Greene County 11-10. That resulted in a lopsided win with the score 40-25.

The Nevada girls look to continue to play great defense and stretch their three game win streak to four at Roland-Story next Tuesday night.
