On Tuesday, November 26th, the energetic Nevada Cub 7th grade girls basketball team headed to North Polk to face the Comets. The girls started out with lots of energy and took the first half 11-7, but they ran out of juice in the second half and lost 15-18.

“In the first half we did a nice job moving the ball around and finding the open girl down low by the basket. In the second half you could tell it was our first game back after Thanksgiving break,” said Coach Corey Long. “Our girls looked tired and could not keep up with them on the defensive end. Offensively, we went cold and could not get our shots to fall. We were outscored in the second half 11-4.”

The second game was a much different story. The half ended with the Cubs up 18-0 and ended the game 30-8.

The girls were able to relax some once we got our big lead at the start, however we continue to  struggle moving our feet on defense and our boxing out on rebounds,” said Coach Long. “We will have to spend time working on our conditioning and our shooting the next couple of practices. Overall it was a good night of basketball for us against a good North Polk team. I know that we will work hard this week to improve, and we look forward to playing them again at home in a couple of weeks.”

The girls play next against Roland-Story next Thursday, November 29th, at home.
