Nevada’s JV girls basketball team faced Des Moines Christian on January 29, losing 35-37.

The Nevada girls started off building a 14-5 lead ending the first quarter and extending it to 22-12 at halftime.

“Offensively four players hit three point baskets (Alexis Crane, Rylee Stevenson, Megan Wessels and Caroline Ausman) going against a zone defense of the DMC Lions,” said Coach Hersom. “The Lions changed their defense into man in the second half and the Cubs’ offense struggled at times. The Lions tied the game with two minutes left and took the lead on a steal and layup with nine seconds left. The Cubs’ last attempt was deflected as time ran out.”

Eight of nine Cubs scored with junior Rylee Stevenson leading the way with seven followed by three with six each for Sydney Mosinski, Amelea Jones and Megan Wessels.

Come support the Cubs at the next games on February 2 against Gilbert and February 6 against Grundy Center. Go Cubs!
