Varsity Boys Basketball

The Nevada Varsity Boys Basketball team is hoping to make big strides this season. The Cubs, led by coach Chris Hinson, are coming off of a great 15-6 season. Their main goal is to get better every day, and in the end, to win a conference title and make a deep run into postseason play.

The team’s biggest strengths coming into the year are their size, athleticism, and experience. Somethings Coach Hinson would like to improve for the season are playing hard all the time and cutting down on turnovers, as those were some of the Cubs’ biggest problems last year.

The Cubs have five seniors this year and are returning five of their seven leading scorers from last year. Om’Unique Wilkerson, Tyler Sansgaard, and Jack Higgins all made big improvements last year to be key contributors for the Cubs. Trent Stahl, Luke Merfeld, and Om’Unique Wilkerson performed at an All-Conference level last year, so Coach Hinson expects them to have big years again. He also sees Tyler Sansgaard and Jack Higgins having big seasons as well.

Coach Hinson is looking forward to competing for a conference title, but also has some tougher nonconference games scheduled this year, which could make the Cubs a tougher team down the road. It should be a fun and tough season for the Cubs, as their season is full of high expectations and excitement.
