Coach Lonnie Ferguson

The head coach for Nevada High School wrestling again this year is Lonnie Ferguson. Coach Ferguson has a tremendous amount of experience as this will be his 17th year as head coach. Before he was head coach, he served 5 years as a middle school coach and another 5 years as an assistant high school coach. To go along with his coaching experience, he was an assistant volleyball coach at another school.

Coach Ferguson got into coaching wrestling was because he wrestled in high school. Then after graduation, his high school coach asked him if he would be willing to be the junior high coach, and, of course, he said yes.

Coach Ferguson is also joined on staff by assistant coach James Long and volunteer coach Jim Pappas.

Assistant Coach James Long

James Long is the JV coach for Nevada High School wrestling. Coach Long is a full time college student but still finds time to come to Nevada for practice every day.

This year is his fourth year coaching wrestling. On top of that, he personally wrestled for three years at West Marshall High School.

Coach Long got into coaching because of the impact that it had on his life. He feels that he will be able to have the same impact on other kids as they try to achieve their goals.

Volunteer Coach Jim Pappas

Coach Jim Pappas is a volunteer coach for the Nevada High School wrestling team. He currently serves as a high school physical education teacher, but he has had a lot of experience with coaching. He has been involved with Nevada athletics for 35 years.

Coach Pappas is the former head wrestling coach, assistant football coach, and weight room instructor. He has even coached Parks and Rec Soccer and Softball.

Before moving to Nevada, he was an assistant coach at Augsburg College for one year. He then was an assistant coach at Winona High School for four years.
